Positive Discipline Workshops
We offer two-hour introductory workshops on a variety of topics to address some of the common issues we face as parents of young children. Join in the collective wisdom of a group of dedicated parents as we get a closer look at specific parenting concerns. In these workshops, we will learn new parenting tools for a fresh perspective on the issue-at-hand. Bring home ready-to-use, effective techniques that empower ourselves and our children through awareness, loving guidance, and respect.
2-Hour Workshop Topics include:
Introduction to Positive Discipline
for schools, places of worship, community organizations, corporations, and groups of friends:
Gain an understanding of some of the guiding principles of Positive Discipline
and bring home a grab bag of effective tools, techniques, and strategies
based upon parenting with dignity and respect.
"No!": Guiding The Will of the Young Child
Life for a young child is a delicate balance between freedom and structure.
Engaging a child's will and ego is one of the most challenging tasks
of a parent of a child under age 5.
Yet, providing guidance for a child's moral development
is one of the most important jobs for us as parents.
In this workshop,
we will gain an understanding of the positive functions of the child's will.
As we learn tools to lovingly guide our children's willfulness
in a healthy and respectful manner,
we'll cultivate decision-making, emotional intelligence, and self-confidence
in our children's lives.
When we teach children how to handle disappointment and boundaries,
we lay the foundation for resiliency well into the adult years.
Temper Tantrums 101
Leave to a temper tantrum to make us feel like we are failing as parents!
In reality, temper tantrums are- in part- a healthy phase of our children's development.
Join with a group of other parents experiencing the oh, so common temper tantrums of the early childhood years. Broaden your perspective on the spectrum of possible root causes of temper tantrums. And take home skills so you can prevent and minimize the frequency and intensity of many tantrums, better support your child during an existing tantrum, and gain greater acceptance and patience for those tantrums that just can't be prevented.
Hitting, Biting, and Kicking: The Young Child's Trio
Little is more disconcerting to parents than
the hitting, biting, and/or kicking of their toddler or preschooler.
"Where is my child learning this violent behavior?" is a question we may ask ourselves. Yet in fact a child who hits, bites, or kicks
is often experiencing a perfectly normal developmental stage of childhood.
In this workshop, we learn to recognize many of the main feelings
that may result in a child's physical expression of emotion-
excitement, boredom, fear, anger, frustration, over-stimulation-
as well as unmet basic needs like, hunger, thirst, sleep and security.
Gain techniques to affirm and meet unmet needs,
and if need be, redirect children's emotions into healthier behavior.
Understand the developmental-appropriateness (even if they're not socially-appropriate!)
of biting, hitting, and kicking and
realize that a large community of parents are facing this issue, too.
Come away with confidence in your ability to ensure children are safe
while not creating bullies and victims.
Share joy in recognizing that, "yes, this too shall pass."
