Why a Doula?

FAQ
Blossoming Family offers both birth and post-partum
doula services that support flourishing families through the journey to parenthood

Studies from around the world have shown how valuable having a doula is.  My philosophy as a doula is to get to know the family well enough to understand what is most important to them throughout this wonderful and life changing process.  I see it as my job to help the family fulfill these desires for birth and post-partum.    A doula is there beforehand to help offer the family all the information they need to make informed decisions.

During the birth process the doula is there to help facilitate the plans that the family has made.   The doula will use a variety of comforting tools to help the process progress smoothly and to ensure that the families needs are being met.

Post-partum a doula can serve as a precious resource for all of the new parent anxieties and concerns.  The doula can also show the parents tools to soothe newborns.  If you are interested in using a doula, interview a couple of them before making a decision.  It is important that you trust and feel good with this person as they will be along with you through an intimate and life changing journey.

Cheers,

Abigail

What does a post-partum doula do?

Post-partum doulas come into your house after the birth of the baby to help out with household chores, to cook a meal, to answer common questions about baby care, to help soothe babies, or to simply hold the baby while parents shower and take care of themselves.  I offer two hour blocks of post-partum support.
