Q: Why not just take the classes offered at our hospital?
A: Community-based classes are to benefit the community, educators that work outside the hospital are family advocates where as hospital facilitators are hospital employees and therefore hospital advocates.

Q: When is it a good time to take the classes or interview a doula?
A: Really the sooner the better, that way you really get to know your doula well which will help your labor progress smoothly and you will get information from the classes to make informed decisions about your birth.

Q:  What is the benefit of the biodynamic approach to childbirth?
A: The biodynamic approach has many benefits the first I would say is that it is woman centered, because birth can only take place if the woman feels secure.  In the biodynamic approach we learn how to follow the woman's lead in labor so that the whole family can have a positive experience with the birth.

Q:  What are the other benefits to the biodynamic approach?
A:  The biodynamic approach also focuses on learning about the hormonal pathways of labor.  Once parents understand how those pathways work they can choose a setting and people that will help the labor to progress well and in a way that doesn't fight against those natural pathways.  This will encourage the woman's body to labor the way that her body was made to labor.

Q: Why do doula services seem so expensive?
A:  To look and the true cost of hiring a doula you have to consider many issues.  First is your families income.  Doula services should be about 1% of your yearly income.  So if your family income is lower than average, let your doula know and she will probably work with you.  How do most doulas get this number?   Well first lets just talk about the birth.  The average labor is 12-17 hours in length(some labors are quite longer). Labor doula-ing is wonderful.  It is also physically and emotionally taxing and we must recover from them for a few days.  Then there are the prenatal and post-partum visits.  Access to films and reading materials.  Many people save for their doula and pay over several months which makes the services more affordable.  And most families say that the money was well spent to support them during the joyous time of their child's birth.
